La cucina di Domenica e Salvatore by Sophie Westerlind
La cucina di Domenica e Salvatore by Sophie Westerlind
"The painting was inspired by a kitchen in Reggio Calabria, Italy, where I (Sophie Westerlind) visited the parents of a close friend the summer after my year as an Erasmus student in Padua. On my last day there, they graciously allowed me to take photographs of their home. I vividly recall sharing watermelon on plastic plates in the kitchen just before I caught my train. Whenever I think of that room, it brings back memories of laughter and conversations. Today, my friend lives in Brussels, and when he visited me in Venice with his parents, it felt like stepping back into that kitchen. This painting is the first in a series that reflects on the intimate connection between rooms and the people who inhabit them."
